Blair Elementary School’s Family/Teacher Conference Policy

I. Purpose
 
● The purpose of Family/Teacher Conferences is to facilitate open communication between families and teachers, ensuring a collaborative effort to support students' academic, social, and emotional development. This policy aims to establish guidelines for effective conferences that involve all core teachers and promote best practices in addressing student concerns.
 

II. Scheduling and Communication

● Family/Teacher Conferences will be scheduled regularly throughout the school year, and parents/guardians will be notified of the conference dates in advance.
● To schedule a conference, parents/guardians are encouraged to call the school and arrange a mutually convenient time. "Drop-in" conferences during the school day are discouraged to minimize disruptions to instructional time.
 

III. Attendance

● All core teachers will attend Family/Teacher Conferences to provide a comprehensive view of the student's academic performance across different subjects.
● Parents/guardians are expected to attend these conferences to participate actively in discussions about their child's progress. ZOOM and phone conferences can be arranged if needed.
 

IV. Collaboration and Problem Solving

● Best practice involves teachers proactively reaching out to co-workers to collaborate on identifying patterns of success and areas of concern for individual students across various classes.
● Teachers will work together to problem-solve and develop strategies to address student needs, considering both isolated incidents and broader patterns of behavior or performance. V. Communication Response Time
● Teachers commit to responding to emails and requests from parents/guardians within 48 hours. This ensures timely and effective communication, fostering a partnership between educators and families in the student's best interest.
 
VII. Contact Information
 
● Parents/guardians can call the school and use the staff directory to schedule a conference to find the teacher's extension.
● Alternatively, parents/guardians may request a conference via email using the teacher's listed email address on the         school's staff page or the teacher's web page.
